Construction Operative

We've built over 200 homes with a pipeline far in excess of this. We are also a manufacturer; operating in a 125,000 sq ft factory in Derbyshire and have well advanced plans to build another one 5 times bigger. 

Job Summary

This role sites within the Deployment team, reporting to the Site Manager who will instruct on daily tasks.

 

This role will be based in the south east region and requires flexibility to work at construction sites as required by the business. You may be required to attend any project sites, current or future, and the expectation would be for you to be within 1 hours commute of the regional construction sites, as such travel time and travel expenses within this remit will need to be met by yourself.

Main Purpose of Role

The role is to support the works on TopHat’s construction sites across the UK.  You will work on our deployment sites completing modules from the factory to make sure that they are meeting the correct standards of completion and quality before handing over to our customers.  You will be required to work in a safe way ensuring adherence to all health and safety standard on site and ensure that all interactions with relevant partners are professional (TopHat Staff, contractors, customers and visitors).

 

The work can be both inside the modules and externally. The work environment is a construction site.

 

The purpose of the role is to support deployment activities and ensure all modules are sited and zipped up correctly, making sure any final works required are done to the specifications of the client and all modules are ready for client handover.

Key Responsibilities and Authority

  1. Being an excellent communicator with your factory/site colleagues and team leaders to understand the works you are required to do.

  2. Ensure that you complete tasks to the trained SOPS ensuring high quality and processes.

  3. Cutting timber and board materials to size using appropriate cutting equipment.

  4. Operating pneumatic and electrical plant and equipment, including hand tools.

  5. Preparing frames/joist sub-assemblies.

  6. Insulating cavities and surfaces with acoustic/thermal materials using hand tools.

  7. Fitting M&E services and sub-assemblies within cavities using hand tools.

  8. Cladding panels with sheet materials using semi-automated framing equipment and hand tools.

  9. Making wall panels using semi-automated framing equipment and hand tools,

  10. Fitting of doors/windows.

  11. Initial placement of large sub-assemblies into modules using overhead cranes.

  12. Part sealing and part wrapping of airtight system using hand tools.

  13. Fitting M&E services and sub-assemblies within cavities using hand tools.

  14. To follow, contribute and promote TopHat Health and Safety, Environmental Quality Systems.

  15. Any other duties as deemed necessary to meet the needs of the business.

Qualifications - Essential

  • GSCE Maths & English grade C or equivalent

Qualifications - Desirable

  • CSCS Card

Skills and Experience - Essential

  • Solid judgment and problem-solving skills

  • Able to perform well in a team environment

  • Possess a strong work ethic and sense of urgency – getting things done.

  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, attention to detail/accuracy is a must

  • Demonstrates high level of initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision

Skills and Experience - Desirable

  • Experience of working in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience working with a construction/trade environment
