Production Team Leader

We manufacture homes in a controlled environment, removing uncertainties, improving quality and reducing costs. We've built over 200 homes with a pipeline far in excess of this. We are also a manufacturer; operating in a 125,000 sq ft factory in Derbyshire and have well advanced plans to build another one 5 times bigger. 

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Team Leader to join our production department on a full time, permanent basis. 

 

The Team Leader will be responsible for all operations of a defined area / team, supporting the Production Manager with the day-to-day management, overseeing a team and ensuring an efficient operation in achieving TopHat targets. Provide leadership to the team, coordinating their workloads, providing support to ensure that the team delivers, monitoring any issues, and ensuring production targets, KPIs, and quality standards are met. Develop the team by focusing on individual performance and support requirements to achieve high standards, whilst fostering a culture of working safely.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

Responsible for people management matters.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, development and training needs where necessary.

  •  Ensure sufficient training for all operators to fulfil processes within the area.

  • Support the team to achieve operational success.

  • Monitor time and attendance and ensure compliance with TopHat procedures.

  • Carry out incident, accident and non-conformity investigations. Foster safety mindset (e.g., hazard reporting).

  • Ensure clear 2-way communication.

  • Assist with resolving issues including regular feedback. Constantly review and evaluate the effectiveness of all team members.

  •  Support with performance management activities as and when required.

  •  Ensure the team are aware of day-to-day targets and responsibilities.

  •  Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviours expected of them.

 

Work with support functions.

  • Liaise and communicate with other departments and ensure an effective interface is maintained.

  • Work positively with support functions to fully define the processes/procedures/controls relevant to team activities.

  •  Provide support and input to continuous improvement activities within the team.

  • Interface with Production Scheduling to determine schedules for shift production.

 

Ensure Quality Standards.

  • Ensures the processes and procedures are executed in accordance with BOPAS, SOP’s, SAP and ISO  9001:2015 management guidelines, this also includes ISO14001 Environmental Standards and ISO  45001 for Health & Safety.

  • Ensure that non-conforming material is clearly identified and segregated. Ensure that the escalation procedure for quality concerns is followed.

  • Ensure work environment, machines and equipment is maintained well. Ensure full adherence to 5S-standards. Ensure all equipment is within calibration, functioning correctly, TPM schedules are adhered to. Monitor and maintain all safety equipment and tools.

  • To follow, contribute and promote TopHat Health, Safety, Environmental Quality Systems

  • Any other duties as deemed necessary to meet the needs of the business.

 

Do you fit the bill? 

 

  • Experience working within a Lean manufacturing environment

  • Previous line management/team leadership skills/experience

  • Proven track record in improving safety, quality, delivery and cost performance

  • Ability to self-motivate against demanding targets and tight deadlines

  • Good organisational and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively within a team and engage with stakeholders at all levels of the business

  • Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft packages

  • Employee training and performance management experience

  • NVQ in Lean Manufacturing (Desirable)
