Head of Procurement

We've built over 200 homes with a pipeline far in excess of this. We are also a manufacturer; operating in a 125,000 sq ft factory in Derbyshire and have well advanced plans to build another one 5 times bigger. 

 

TopHat are now on the look out for a Head of Procurement to oversee and lead the TopHat Procurement team, delivering reliable management of suppliers and substantial cost savings whilst maintaining high quality in the products we use to build our homes.

 

Main purpose of the role:

 

  • Lead the Procurement team to deliver targeted cost reduction and inflation mitigation results across all categories of spend in TopHat
  • Manage a team of 3-4 people, and prepare the team operationally for an 8x growth in scale with the introduction of TopHat’s factory 2
  • Use data to prioritise and manage procurement performance in a pragmatic and objective manner
  • Work creatively with suppliers to examine better products/solutions which generate win/win situations between us
  • Work closely with TopHat Supply Chain and Logistics (SC&L), which operates as a separate, peer function. Procurement negotiates with suppliers to secure agreements, from which SC&L places orders and manages delivery and inventory
  • Manage supplier performance and take escalation from other teams, including SC&L and Technical
  • Liaise with design / technical / sales teams to determine customer requirements and to suggest procurement-led options to minimise cost and enhance profitability – then ensure any such changes are examined, approved and pushed through to full delivery
  • Document agreements with all suppliers to include pricing, product performance/quality, and delivery performance
  • Be proactive in developing and clarifying material specifications where necessary to aid procurement
  • Maintain accuracy of (and take accountability for) all pricing data in SAP
  • Support the improvement and enhanced use of data systems (including MRP, Procure-to Pay, supplier data connections) to reduce manual re-entry and data governance issues
  • Develop a deep understanding of the construction materials supply chain, particularly products like timber and sheet materials, to ensure the right quality and price are maintained in light of market dynamics
  • Audit all incumbent and potential suppliers in readiness for Factory 2, to ensure their capacity (including that of their own supply chains) is sufficient, and their method of delivery is flexible enough to support the delivery of 1 house per hour
  • Identify sole-supplier and supplier continuity risks and mitigate by maintain alternative routes to market

 

Experience and qualifications we are looking for:

 

  • Educated to degree level
  • CIPS Member (desirable)
  • Extensive experience in product and supply chain sourcing, including the development of long term collaborative relationships with suppliers
  • Construction and/or manufacturing experience
  • Excellent commercial awareness
  • Sound decision making skills
  • Is not knocked off balance by ambiguity, uncertainty and change
  • Ability to demonstrate TopHat values.
