Head of Factory Technology

In this role, you will be responsible for leading the team responsible for solving system integration problems by ensuring that the hardware, software and network function together, with appropriate performance and efficiency. Provide expert guidance to TopHat executive leadership and Board of Directors on emerging factory control and automation solutions. Accountable for support & development of systems directly linked to TopHat Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and factory automation equipment.


  • Manage and develop the team responsible for TopHat factory automation and production control systems

  • Lead the interface with Design, Manufacturing, and Procurement to ensure efficient and rapid translation of design drawings into assembly instructions and Bills of Material

  • Represent TopHat as the senior leader responsible for factory automation and control systems and software

  • Maintain and continuously improve TopHat production control system, including software and embedded rules and libraries

  • Support manufacturing team to diagnose and resolve machine and automation system issues, working in conjunction with TopHat engineering and maintenance teams and vendors

  • Understand computer hardware, software and networking and integration challenges involved in controlling connected factory equipment

  • Solve system integration problems by ensuring a deep understanding of all of the different components of a deployed solution

  • Ensure that hardware, software, and network function together, with appropriate performance and efficiency

  • Apply both analytical and hands-on work to solve problems

  • Lead work with in-house and external teams to avoid and if necessary reolve  difficult interoperability issues that arise when different application components are developed, at different times, by separate teams

  • To methodically work through a problem and multiple potential solution to identify the best approach for resolving it

  • To identify long-term design issues as well as immediate application issues

  • Communicate well with other departments and engineers

  • To participate in technical discussions with other engineering colleagues, designers, manufacturing personnel, and CAD Technicians to discuss application and architectural issues, in order to solve middleware issues

  • Design and develop reporting methods and provide deep dive analysis of data

  • To follow, contribute and promote TopHat Health, Safety, Environmental Quality

  • Act as a champion of TopHat values and promote an innovative, collaborative, and accountable company culture
